Shankar Mahadeva impresses with contestant’s rendition of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs’

Mumbai: Music directors Shankar Mahadevan and Anu Malik were impressed with ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs’ contestant Atanu Mishra’s performance and called him “Mini Manna Dey” on the show.

The 9-year-old contestant, who hails from West Bengal, told the judges that he idolized the late singer and before starting his practice, worshiped him.

Atanu wowed the judges and the audience with her rendition of the song ‘Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen’ from the movie ‘Waqt’. After listening to his melodious voice, judges Anu Malik and Shankar Mahadevan praised him and said that he is a true follower of late singer Manna Dey.

Shankar said, “We should name it as ‘Mini Manna Dey’ on our show itself today.”

Anu also added, “It’s very exciting to see such an extraordinary talent on the ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs’ stage.” We were all emotional as we could literally feel Manna Dey’s presence through Atanu’s voice.”

He called him a true devotee of the legendary singer, “I realized that you are a true ‘bhakt’ of Manna Da and the song you sang is a ‘qawwali’ from when we all were children. But the way you sang it was just fantastic.
