Selena Gomez flaunts confidence in a tuxedo jacket and pantsuit at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles

Selena Gomez walked the red carpet ahead of the Academy Awards Gala held at the museum’s headquarters in Los Angeles. The 30-year-old actress wore a fitted black tuxedo jacket and flared black trousers which showed off her slim figure.

Her dark hair was tucked behind her ears and styled in long, straight locks that cascaded down her back. The former Disney Channel star wore a dainty silver ring and sparkling chandeliers that touched the top of her shoulders.

Selena let her natural beauty shine through wearing just a shimmery brown smoky eye and glossy nude lips. She walked the star-studded red carpet in black sandals that showed off her white-painted toes.

At the Gala at the Academy Museum, Julia Roberts will be the first person to receive the Icon Award. The Hollywood Reporter says that when the event was first held last September, it brought in a whopping $11 million for the new museum.

Tilda Swinton from the movie Doctor Strange will also be honored this year. She received the Visionary Award, which is given to “an artist or scholar whose extensive work has advanced the art of cinema.”

The Vantage Award goes to Steve McQueen, who directed 12 Years a Slave and Shame. The award is given to “an artist or scholar who has helped contextualize and challenge dominant narratives about cinema.”

The Pillar Award will be presented to Parasite producer Miky Lee, who also serves as vice chairman of the Academy’s museum board. It is in recognition of her “outstanding leadership and support for the Academy Museum”.

Lupita Nyong’o and Halle Berry, both Oscar winners, are co-chairing the event with TV mogul Ryan Murphy and successful horror producer Jason Blum.

When it was announced that Julia would receive the Icon Award this year, Jacqueline Stewart, who hosted TCM and was appointed head of the Academy Museum in July, had nice things to say about her.

“Throughout her expansive and distinguished career, Julia has embodied iconic characters and memorable roles. We are thrilled to honor her continued excellence in the industry and her contributions to the arts.” she said.

“We are deeply grateful to Julia, Mickey, Steve and Tilda, to Rolex, and to our co-chairs and host committee for making our second annual gala an evening to remember.”

Last year, the Academy Museum opened just four days after the first gala. His political bent has caused a storm of controversy.

Critics have criticized the museum for shining a spotlight on the contributions of minorities to the American film industry, while almost completely ignoring the contributions of white Jewish immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe, who are a big part of making Hollywood what it is today.

In response to the backlash, the museum said in March it would add a permanent exhibit on the history of Jews in the film business.
