Section 144 clamped at Dhabaleswar shrine

Cuttack: The Cuttack district administration today clamped Section 144 at Dhabaleswar temple here after closing a hanging bridge to the famous Shaivite shrine for devotees in the wake of the Morbi bridge collapse incident in Gujarat.

The prohibitory order has been clamped for indefinite period, said an official of the district administration.

“The hanging bridge over Mahanadi river has been closed for devotees for a day to facilitate a thorough inspection of the facility in the wake of the Gujarat tragedy. There were several difficulties to ferry hundreds of devotees to the shrine on boats. So, the district administration has clamped the prohibitory order at Dhabaleswar to discourage people to visit the shrine,” added the official.

Earlier, the district administration had decided to reduce the capacity of the hanging bridge from 600 to 200. As per the decision of the district administration, a maximum of 200 people would be allowed to cross the river at a time.

It is worth mentioning here that thousands of devotees usually throng Dhabaleswar shrine, located inside Mahanadi river, in the holy month of Kartika.

Notably, as many as 140 people were killed when a hanging bridge collapsed at Morbi in Gujarat on October 30.
