Saturday Night Live’s Chris Redd was hospitalized after the attack in New York

Chris Redd’s final night is no laughing matter. The former Saturday Night Live star was allegedly assaulted by a stranger October 26. He was taken to a hospital in New York.

The New York Police Department said a 37-year-old man was punched in the face at 9:40 p.m. outside the Comedy Cellar in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village neighborhood. The victim’s face was injured and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital. As of press time, no arrests have been made and police said the investigation is still ongoing.

TMZ obtained photos of someone who looks like Chris Redd being treated for his bloody wounds. Right now we don’t know what’s wrong with the comedian. Well! News tried to get Chris’ team to say something, but has yet to hear back.

This comes just days before the 37-year-old’s comedy, Why Am I, is set to hit HBO Max on November 3.

“14 years of hustle…countless shows,” he wrote on Instagram while teasing his special, “Years of running around doing shit…and *almost* no scandals all leading up to this!!”

The comedian was previously on Saturday Night Live for five seasons. Chris said in September that he would not be returning for Season 48 in the fall.

“Being a part of SNL was the experience of a lifetime,” he said in a statement. “Five years ago, I came into 30 Rock knowing it was an incredible opportunity for growth. Now, with friends who have become family and memories I will cherish forever, I am grateful to Lorne Michaels and the entire SNL organization.”

Chris was known for his impressions of Barack Obama and Kanye West while on the show. He also won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Score and Lyrics for Come Back Barack in 2018.
