Quiz legend quits popular TV show after years of ‘great fun’

QUIZ show legend Judith Keppel is stepping down from Channel 5’s Eggheads after 19 years.

The show returns on Monday, but viewers won’t see Keppel in the panel of boffins taking on the contestants.

Judith Keppel, 80, retired after 19 years at Eggheads

Keppel, 80, is one of the original Eggheads, having joined the program in 2003 after being catapulted to fame as the first UK winner of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in the year 2000

Explaining her decision to retire, she said: “I’ve been doing it for 19 years and my memory is definitely not what it used to be.”

Keppel added: “I noticed that I couldn’t study as well as I used to.

“So I just thought it was time to go.”

She said making Eggheads was “awesome fun”.

“I think what I will strangely miss is being able to concentrate.

“Because it was very good for me as I started reading the newspapers concentrating hard.

“Now of course I throw out all the sports pages there are, I don’t have to do that, I don’t have to read about pop music or anything like that.”

Eggheads returns to Channel 5 on October 10 at 6.30pm.
