What is a dearness allowance:
Dearness Allowance is a cost-of-living adjustment paid by the government to public sector workers and pensioners. But to cope with rising inflation, the effective salary of civil servants is revised periodically. The Union Government revises the DA twice every year – in January and July.
It should be noted that the dearness allowance of each employee varies according to his place of employment whether it is urban sector, semi-urban sector or rural sector.
