His father worked in the Telugu film industry, so his family moved to Hyderabad. Although he was the son of a producer, he had no desire to pursue an acting career.
He had always aspired to become an entrepreneur. But he could not stay away from the glamorous world for long and soon began working as an actor in films.

He began his acting career in the Telugu film Eeswar (2002); he then went on to star in one or two films every year. He was also invited to try his hand as an actor by his uncle, Uppalapati Krishnam Raju.
He spent two years working on the 2014 film Baahubali: The Beginning, which was offered to him by director SS Rajamouli. He gambled because he hadn’t signed any other projects at the time, but when the film came out, his efforts paid off and it became the third highest grossing Indian film globally.
He later appeared in the 2017 sequel, Baahubali: The Conclusion, which broke all previous records by becoming the second highest grossing Indian film globally. He has gained more followers with this film, not only in South India but also in North India. In the film, his performance received rave reviews. The film also received a 2017 National Award for Best Picture.
