Openda hat-trick spurs Lens to Ligue 1 win

RC Lens striker Lois Openda stepped off the bench and scored a hat-trick to give his side a 3-0 win over Toulouse in Ligue 1, continuing the hosts’ streak of home wins this season.

Lens have won all seven home games so far this season but missed a chance to open the scoring in the first half when Seko Fofana’s 38th-minute penalty was saved by Toulouse goalkeeper Maxime Dupe.

They took the lead on the hour when Openda overtook their scorer and headed from Florian Sotoca’s cross.

Openda and Sotoca had entered as substitutes four minutes earlier.

Openda scored again in the 86th minute when he overtook the Toulouse defense and sent the ball behind Dupe with his left foot.

The 22-year-old Belgian completed his hat-trick in two minutes of added time with a shot from the right of the box that pierced the legs of Toulouse defender Moussa Diarra and ended up in the left corner of the net.

Lens is second in the standings with 30 points from 13 games.

They are two points behind leaders Paris St Germain, who will face Troyes, 11th in the standings, on Saturday.
