Bhubaneswar: Kuni Dehury, who recently received praises from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Mann Ki Baat programme, was awarded under the ‘Odisha-50’ initiative last year.

‘Odisha-50’ is an initiative by The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Odisha Council in collaboration with Sambad that works for empowering women entrepreneurs from grass-root level and help them become self-sufficing.

In 2021, Kuni was awarded the ‘Sharda Seema Samman’ by Governor of Odisha Prof. Ganeshi Lal at the ‘Odisha-50’ Women’s Conclave organised by Sambad. She received the award for her unique work of utilizing solar energy to spin silk and make clothes.

Kuni Dehuri hails from Karadapal village under Harichandanpur block of Keonjhar district.  So far, she has trained as many as 500 women to spin silk on solar energy-powered machine.

After being praised by PM Modi during Mann Ki Baat programme, Kuni said, “I had never dreamt of receiving praise from the Prime Minister of India. I feel proud as the Prime Minister has appreciated my effort to train women for self-employment. Today, the whole country knew about me.”
