Neave Campbell to helm David E. Kelly’s new ABC drama Avalon

Vik star Neave Campbell is set to collaborate on another project with David E. Kelly (Big Little Lies) and Michael Connelly, this time as the lead in ABC’s new drama Avalon.

Campbell recently starred with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo on Netflix Lawyer Lincolnwhich Kelly adapted from the 2008 novel The judgment of Brass by Connolly, a sequel to his novel Lawyer Lincoln. She will continue her role as Maggie McPherson as a guest star in the upcoming second season.

According to Deadline, this new project is set in the town of Avalon on Catalina Island in California and revolves around Detective Nicole “Nick” Searcy (Campbell) of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. Serving more than 1 million tourists a year, Catalina sees ferries arriving daily with hundreds of potential new stories entering the island. In one of these stories, Detective Searcy is drawn into a career-defining mystery that calls into question everything she knows about herself and the island.

Campbell’s character has been described as “somewhat inscrutable” and not easily frightened. She also has a strong moral compass, which landed her in Avalon in the first place. Although no career-minded LA cop wants this assignment, Nick soon discovers that her valuable detective skills are needed more by Avalon than she ever imagined.

Kelly and Connolly are executive producing the series, along with Dana Calvo with Fineman for Fineman Entertainment and Barry Josen and Tana Jamison for A+E Studios. The series is produced by A+E Studios and 20th Television.

This marks the second project currently in the works for Campbell, who also stars in a recurring role opposite Anthony Mackie in the upcoming Peacock series Twisted Metal. Her previous television appearances include Party of five, The philanthropistand House of cards. She recently reprized the memorable role of Sidney Prescott in Vik restart; however, she confirmed that she would not be returning for shout 6.
