The film takes some time to establish the main characters of the film and makes us believe that the situations that are occurring and the first scenes of the film are well planned and grabs our attention with good storytelling. After Naveen Chandra makes history as an undercover detective, the scenes sometimes seem routine and predictable, and DGP’s backstory in the investigation process clearly gives the idea of what could have happened and what could happen next, but the film it’s intriguing as the script and storytelling keep the mind busy.
As for the performances, Naveen Chandra looks good in the role of a detective and has given a great performance as required for the character. Past actress Madhoo Shah (Madhubala) is completely misfit for the role of DGP, her portrayal seems exaggerated in most scenes. Achyuth Kumar as the writer is convincing in the role of him and all the other actors have done their part as required for the continuation of the film’s plot.
Technically the film looks fine. The background music composed by Ghibran brings the feeling required for the scenes. PG Muthaiah’s cinematography looks fine, most of the scenes in the film had a static shot and all shots are nothing special and cannot be ignored, as the lighting used creates the required atmosphere for the thriller. Production values are ok.
Director Aravindh Srinivasan did a good job of creating interest with the first few scenes and struggled with some scenes in the second half of the film.
Overall, Repeat is an interesting thriller to watch. Its captivating premise will keep you hooked until the very end.
