He was born in Chennai to actor and entrepreneur Akkineni Nagarjuna and Lakshmi Daggubati, daughter of producer D. Ramanaidu. His maternal uncle Daggubati Venkatesh and his cousins Sumanth, Sushant and Rana Daggubati are also actors, while his paternal grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao was also an actor. His father married Amala Mukherjee, a former actress after he and his mother separated.
Akhil Akkineni, the son of Amala and Nagarjuna, is his half-brother. Following his parents’ divorce, Chaitanya spent his early years in Chennai with his mother. From an early age he had a passion for music and played piano and bass in the school band. In fact, he attended the illustrious Trinity College in London, where he studied the keyboard.
Chaitanya attended Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School in Chennai for his elementary and secondary education, and then earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from a Hyderabad university. In her second year of college, she decided she wanted to pursue acting and enrolled in a Mumbai acting school for three months. In Los Angeles, she also took acting lessons and martial arts lessons and worked on her Telugu pronunciation of her.
