Morbi Bridge Collapse: PM Modi Announces Compensation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took notice of the collapse of a suspension bridge in Gujarat’s Morbi district on Sunday night, where at least 60 people were killed and dozens are missing, and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of the dead.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister summoned Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for a briefing on the incident.

“PM @narendramodi spoke to Gujarat CM @Bhupendrabjp & other officials regarding Morbi accident. He demanded the urgent mobilization of teams for rescue operations. He requested that the situation be monitored closely and continuously and provide all possible assistance to those affected,” the tweet said.

Another tweet said the Prime Minister “has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each of those who lost their lives in the Morbi accident. The injured will get Rs. 50,000”.
