MLS Cup Playoffs 2022: Austin FC seeks third win against LAFC in conference finals

LOS ANGELES (KXAN) — It’s game day and Austin FC can make history with a win against LAFC on Sunday.

Verde face the Supporters’ Shield winners at 2pm at the Banc of California Stadium and look to beat them for the third time this season. This time, however, the stakes are much higher than during the regular season.

A win would put Austin FC in the MLS Cup Final in the team’s second year in the league and reach the playoff field for the first time. Verde beat LAFC 2-1 at Banc of California Stadium in the regular season opener, then throttled the league leaders 4-1 at home.

Fans who couldn’t make the trip to LA gather outside Q2 Stadium in North Austin for a watch party to cheer on Verde.

Start of the match: You can hear the cheers of “Dale! Dale! Dale ATX!” through transmission. LAFC took possession to start the game and there it was.

2:10 p.m: Moussa Jite starts as a striker again for Verde, as he did against FC Dallas and scored the first goal of the game. Emiliano Rigoni will start on the right wing and Dani Pereira will move into central midfield alongside captain Alex Ring.

14 hours: The official match kick-off time is 14:18 as the teams complete their pre-match warm-ups.
