During the hardware meeting, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9. These two high-end machines aim to take Windows PCs into a new era.
After weeks of waiting, Microsoft has finally lifted the veil on its new devices. Hosted on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, the fall meeting was an opportunity to discuss the brand’s vision as it prepares to celebrate the first anniversary of Windows 11. The Windows operating system is slowly but surely approaching its 40th anniversary, which has been part of the Surface products for a decade. A little nostalgic, the company’s product director, Panos Panay, looks back on this anniversary and shares Microsoft’s vision. The Redmond-based company has turned its eyes to the cloud more than ever, but it knows the PC still has an important role to play.
Surface Laptop 5: more and more power
The 5And Surface Laptop generation finally arrives, a year and a half after the Surface Laptop 4. A long wait in this area where competition is fierce, which has allowed Microsoft to refine its copy. From the outside, the Surface Laptop 5 does not evolve much and we are still in the presence of an ultraportable with a sleek design. It is inside that Microsoft is changing machines and several surprises await you.
For this new generation, the manufacturer does not offer versions under AMD. On the other hand, it’s the first time in the series with Thunderbolt 4 and it’s a minor event. Available in 13.5 and 15 inches, the Surface Laptop 5 is based on a PixelSense panel in 3.2 format. The screen is also Dolby Vision IQ certified.
Under the hood are 12. Intel Core ProcessorsAnd generation with the Intel Core i5-1245U and theIntel Core i7-1265U. The different configurations offer boarding up to 32 GB of RAM And 1 TB of storage. Microsoft announces that its Surface Laptop 5 is 50% more powerful than its predecessor.
On the autonomy side it fluctuates between 5pm and 6pm depending on the model chosen and the battery is charged with a 60W power supply.

Surface Pro 9: a 120 Hz display and the ARM surprise (with 5G)
The long-awaited Surface Pro 9 finally shows the tip of the nose. The tablet that converts to a laptop retains the features that have earned it its reputation. Wear a 13-inch PixelSense touchscreen in 3: 2 format; with a definition of 2.8K (2,880 x 1,920 pixels) and a refresh rate of up to up to 120 Hz. There’s a Windows Hello compatible 1080p camera, along with speakers, microphones, and the internal G6 chip.
The main changes concern the data sheet, with the arrival of the processors Intel Core 12And generation (Aldermeer low consumption). As with the Surface Laptop 5, the manufacturer offers the choice between a model i5 (1245U) and i7 (1265U). Microsoft relies on the Intel Evo platform with Thunderbolt, which promises up to 50% more performance than the Surface Pro 8. The slate also offers an under ARM version, with a version equipped with the Microsoft SQ3 chip based on the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 Leads to 5G connectivity to the Surface Pro 9.
Panos Panay also mentions the presence of a new neural processing unit (NPU). Offers new AI features and enhancements to Windows Studio Effects. Appearing with the latest Windows 11 update, the feature aims to improve audio and video calls.
The design of the tablet does not evolve and simply offers new colors, such as Sapphire or Forest. The chassis is made of aluminum while a 60W power supply accompanies the Surface Pro 9.
