Melbourne Cup at Ascot Racecourse: Crowds watch big race while activists protest animal cruelty outside gates
A steady stream of people entered the brand new Ascot Racecourse dressed up as it approached the race that is stopping the nation.
When the crowds entered Perth’s main racecourse for a day of betting and fun, others were out protesting the Melbourne Cup for animal cruelty.
A small group held signs reading “Your Money, Their Life”, “Don’t Bet on Cruelty” and “Is the Party Really Worth It?” “

Unlike Flemington Racecourse, where participants braved the wild weather, the crowd at Ascot watched the win as they enjoyed a sunny day in Perth.
Spring colors seemed to be a theme for women this year, with many wearing bright greens, oranges and pinks. The flowers were also a big hit.
Punters from Perth watched on the big screen as Gold Trip won the Melbourne Cup 2022 with a late push, outpacing longtime leaders Knights Order.
It’s a huge win for Ciaron Mahor, with Western Australian jockey Mark Zahra aboard the $ 21 underdog for his second career triumph.
The emissary finished second to Michael Moroney, with High Emocean, team mate of the winner, in last place.
Big favorite Deauville Legend finished fourth.
