Maoists with guns or pens must be defeated, says Narendra Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that Maoism in all its forms must be eradicated to strengthen the country’s internal security.

The government has already adopted a zero tolerance policy against terrorism, now it is high time that the urban Naxals or pen-wielding Maoists are eliminated to keep the younger generation from going astray, he added.

Prime Minister Modi addressed Chintan Shivir of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in Surajkund, Haryana virtually, organized to discuss issues related to internal security.

As the government is focusing on the Maoist-affected areas, the Maoists with pens are increasing their intellectual circle to the places from where they can create a warped mentality in the coming generations which will further be responsible for the rift in the society, he said.

Maoism should be handled intelligently by experts. “Their faces look different and they work differently and the security agencies should understand that,” the prime minister said, adding that the Maoists also receive foreign aid.

Addressing the Chief Ministers and Home Ministers of the states, he said that the government is also taking strict measures to end abuses of money laundering and corruption in the country. All countries understand the seriousness of destroying the ground network of terrorism.

Perfect coordination between states and central agencies is required to achieve the desired result as it is a battle that has to be fought jointly.

He said that due to the developments in Jammu and Kashmir and the North East, the militants are coming back into the mainstream. It is also important to address border security.

PM Modi suggested that the officers should spend a day in the border areas to understand the reality there. In the end, he expressed hope during the discussion that a collective road map would be formed in which everyone could work together.
