Lucid Air Sapphire: Tri-motor sedan’s wild figures revealed

Lucid Motors unveiled its highly anticipated three-engine Air Sapphire.

The three-engined Air Sapphire sedan packs three engines, two on the rear axle, one on the front, to deliver over 895kW of power and a 97km / h (60mph) sprint in under two seconds.

That would put it in line with the Tesla Model S Plaid (1.98 seconds) and make it at least 0.6 seconds faster than the previous high-performance flagship Lucid Air.

The quarter mile goes by in less than nine seconds and at top speed the Sapphire will go over 200mph.

All of these claims are … claims for now, but Lucid promises to confirm final power outputs and provide test results instrumented to prove the good faith of the Sapphire before launch.

Lucid says the Sapphire will be more than a straight-line missile. The rear motors can be controlled independently, so the outer motor can deliver full power while the inner motor brakes regeneratively.

This should allow for levels of agility not typically associated with huge luxury sedans. Smart motors are supported by stiffer springs, unique shock absorbers, stiffer bushings and retuned electronic driving aids, and steel brakes have been abandoned in favor of carbon-ceramic units.

The car spins on 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Outwardly, you’ll be able to differentiate the Sapphire from the lower variants by its subtle carbon fiber aerodynamic package as well as its blue paintwork. At launch, all sapphires will be sapphire blue to celebrate the launch of the high-performance brand.

Driver and passenger sit in 18-way electric sports seats and the infotainment system features a range of Sapphire-specific graphics.

All these benefits are not cheap. US buyers will have to shell out $ 249,000 (~ $ 360,000) and production will be limited.
