Henry Cavill will no longer star in “The Witcher,” the Netflix show he stars in, the British actor said Saturday on Instagram.
Liam Hemsworth, an Australian actor, was chosen to take his place in the fourth season of the series.
Cavill captioned his post, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventure, and alas, I’ll be leaving my locket and swords behind for Season 4.”
It’s been a big week for the 39-year-old actor, who previously announced that he will once again play Superman in the DC Comics universe.
Cavill announced his departure while also revealing that Hemsworth would be taking over the role, saying: “In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking on the role of White Wolf. As with the greatest literary characters, I pass the torch in awe of the time spent incarnating Geralt, and eager to see how Liam views this most fascinating and nuanced of men.”
The Brit wrote directly to the Aussie and said: “Liam, good sir, this character has such wonderful depth to him, enjoy the dive and see what you can find.” In response, Hemsworth, 32, posted a message on his own your platform to the fans and Cavill.
He said: “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the chance to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill was an amazing Geralt and I’m honored that he handed me the reins and allowed me to take the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m really excited to step into the world of The Witcher.”
Currently, you can only watch seasons 1 and 2 on the streaming service, but season 3 will be released in the summer of 2023. No one knows for sure when season 4 will start filming or air with Hemsworth.
Netflix also said in a tweet on Saturday that the actor is now part of the “Witcher” family. Hemsworth is best known for his role as Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games trilogy.
