He played one of the roles offered to him and made his acting debut in the 2007 film Paruthiveeran, for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor, among other accolades. Subsequently, he starred in Selvaraghavan’s action adventure Aayirathil Oruvan (2010).

Each of his subsequent films, Paiyaa (2010), Naan Mahaan Alla (2010) and Siruthai (2012), also had commercial success (2011). Madras (2014), Thozha (2016), Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017), Kadaikutty Singam (2018) and Kaithi (2019) were among his most commercially successful films after a string of failures (2019).

In his career he finally found a director he wanted to work with again after working with him for the first time 21 times in a row: Muthaiah for Viruman. Karthi has not only been active in the film industry but also in social welfare activities, encouraging fans to do the same through the “Makkal Nala Mandram”, a social welfare group he founded. He started working as an Ambassador for Lysosomal Storage Disorder Awareness in 2011. Nadigar Sangam’s Treasurer since 2015.
