Former Saturday Night Live cast member Chris Redd is recovering after being hit in the face. Redd, who was allegedly attacked by a stranger on Wednesday, was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital in New York.

A 37-year-old man was punched in the face outside the Comedy Cellar in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village at 21:40 on Wednesday, the NYPD deputy commissioner confirmed.

The man was sent to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of his facial injuries after receiving emergency medical treatment. After treatment, the patient was discharged from the hospital.

The preliminary investigation into the attack, according to the NYPD, found that “the victim arrived in front of the site in a vehicle and upon exiting the vehicle an unknown person approached, without prior conversation or provocation, punched the victim in the face before fleeing the scene in parts unknown,” The NYPD told ET.

Although the NYPD declined to comment on the identity of the person, no arrests have been made and TMZ has photos of someone who appears to be Redd receiving medical treatment for his wounds. ET has reached out to a representative for Redd for comment.

The 37-year-old was due to appear at the Comedy Cellar as part of a series of evening gigs, including three on Thursday, when the incident happened. He is also currently set to perform in City Winery on October 30.

Ahead of the Saturday Night Live star’s 48th season, Redd made his exit from the show public. Eight cast members, including Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Kyle Mooney, Alex Moffat, Melissa Villasenor and Aristotle Attari, have left the long-running sketch comedy series.

“To be a part of SNL it was an unforgettable experience. I joined 30 Rock five years ago, realizing it was a fantastic opportunity for growth “As reported, Red made a statement.

“I’m grateful to Lorne Michaels and the entire SNL team right now for giving me friends that have become family and moments that I will cherish forever. I am very grateful for all of you and cannot thank you enough, he added.

Before being promoted to the main cast in 2019, Red appeared on the show in the 2017–2018 season as a featured player. On Wednesday evening in new YorkChris Redd couldn’t make it to his comedy act.

According to TMZ, the former Saturday Night Live cast member was allegedly attacked by an unknown person when he stopped by the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village. Red was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, where he was later treated and allowed to leave.

Around 9:40 PM ET, Red got out of his car and was punched in the face, according to authorities. The man allegedly left Redd with a bleeding nose while wearing a security guard’s uniform.

The culprit had already left the scene by the time law enforcement arrived. Motives for the alleged attack have not been released. Blood can be seen on the sidewalk and steps of the Comedy Cellar in video footage obtained by TMZ.

After Red left Saturday Night Live in late September, reports began to circulate that he was seeing Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife Christina Evangeline. After 11 years of marriage, Thompson filed for divorce and the two are currently separated. Their two daughters, Georgia, 7, and Jana, 3, have joint custody.

According to TMZ, Red and Evangeline only recently started officially dating; there was “no overlap or cheating.” The pair’s relationship is understood not to upset Thompson. After five years on the program, Red left SNL. Thompson joined the cast in 2003 and has remained ever since, making him the longest-serving cast member.
