Iowa State’s stout defense will give Texas a different test on Saturday
AUSTIN (KXAN) — After the Texas Longhorns beat Oklahoma 49-0 in last week’s Red River Showdown, they’ll likely have a bit of a tougher time getting the ball into the end zone against the Big 12’s best defense.
The No. 22 Longhorns host Iowa State at 11 a.m. Saturday, and don’t let the Cyclones’ mediocre 3-3 record fool you, they don’t get people in their end zone very often.
Iowa State enters the game ranked No. 8 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just over 13 points per game. Defensive end Will McDonald IV is third all-time in conference history with 32.5 sacks behind Von Miller and Aaron Hunt. He had two sacks against Kansas State last week.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was named Big 12 Conference Rookie of the Week last week after a big win over the Sooners. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns at Cotton Bowl Stadium, and running back Bijan Robinson recorded his fourth straight 100-yard game on the ground with 130 yards on 22 carries with two touchdowns.
The game will be televised on ABC with Mark Jones and Robert Griffin III on the call. Official kickoff time is 11:07 a.m. Check back here for live updates throughout the game.
