How old was Haley Lou Richardson when she started dating Brett Dyer?

The fact that actress Haley Lou Richardson asked Brett Dyer, who plays Michael on the TV show Jane the Virgin, to marry her is proof enough.

The actress recently told Cosmo how she asked her boyfriend to marry her in a sweet and unexpected way. (And Richardson gets props for being open to the growing trend of women asking men out.)

“I didn’t prepare at all,” Richardson told Cosmopolitan. “I had no idea when I woke up this morning that I would be asking someone to marry me that day. I was totally in the moment and this feeling came up and compelled me to ask him to marry me and I did.

Richardson popped the question at the mall’s food court, and it seemed like that feeling came through. “And he said yes,” Richardson continued. “I feel like the trick to it was just not thinking about it at all before it happened. I just did it.

It says on Instagram that the two met in New Orleans more than five years ago. And it seems that the fact that her husband is eating pizza is a big reason why she did what she did. “We were in this outdoor mall eating pizza when it happened,” she said.

“When we were crying and we had this really amazing moment that I’ll never forget, we were crying and hugging each other and we were like, oh my God, we’re going to get married, we’re going to be together forever, we were like, we’re going to have to do something about it , because we had no rings. So we went to this bush and took these twigs and each knelt down one by one and tied these twigs around their ring fingers. We have them preserved in a small bag.

She continued, “Now my engagement ring is custom made, it’s a really simple ring, but it’s engraved like a twig.” Richardson told Entertainment Tonight Canada in March 2018 that she was getting married. She also talks about why she still refers to Dyer as just her boyfriend.

“He doesn’t like the word fiance because he thinks it sounds pretentious, so we’re still just boyfriend and girlfriend, just engaged I guess.”

A few months later, Dyer spoke with ET Canada about her engagement ring and plans for their wedding. He showed off his new jewelry and said the tricolor band was made of meteor, dinosaur bone, and gold, with a wooden whiskey barrel on the inside. He also said they wanted to get married in Sedona, Arizona because “it looks like Mars and we both think we’re from outer space.”

Even though they seemed to travel light years to find each other, Dyer knew from the start that Richardson was the one. “The second, well not the second, maybe 12 seconds in I knew she was the one because I’ve never met anyone like her before,” he said.

“She’s so free and such a beautiful person and I just couldn’t imagine another person made for me – like she’s just the perfect person. She makes me a better person, she always supports me and it’s just like this endless love we have for each other. I know that sounds so dumb, but it’s true.”
