An NYPD police car was filmed in the Bronx on Thursday after hitting 10 people at an intersection, leaving three people seriously injured

The force of the impact overturned the traffic light, with a walker also pictured disfigured under the wrecked cruiser

A bloodied sheet was also photographed at the scene, and the front fender of the cruiser was also visibly stained with a dark red substance

A horrifying image from the scene showed a shopping trolley crumpled to the ground after it was mangled by the cruiser.

Speaking to the media, Jeffrey B. Madry, chief of patrol for the New York City Police Department, said: “Of course, we don’t want to see anyone hurt, especially when officers are trying to do the right thing.”

He continued, “They were trying to prevent a crime in progress, trying to catch someone who was willing to victimize a good person in the Bronx.”

Chief Madri added: “They were trying to prevent this crime but unfortunately the incident allowed this person to steal the vehicle.”

“We didn’t even get the person we were trying to get,” he added. “Once the incident happened, our personnel had to go into life-saving mode and make sure all of our civilians were okay.”

The police officers’ injuries were minor, the New York Daily News reported. They were responding to a report of a car theft when the crash occurred. The cruiser had sirens and flashing lights.

When DailyMail.com reached out for comment, a spokesperson for the NYPD simply said: “The investigation is ongoing.”

The two cops in the car were speeding to a call about a theft incident when it was cut off from traffic by a gray Acura sedan and the driver swerved, hitting pedestrians at Hoe Ave and Westchester Ave, NBC New York reported.

The curb is near an assisted living facility.

The oldest victim was 65 years old, and the youngest victim was five. There was a two-year-old child in the car that cut off the policemen.

A witness, Nelson Quinones, 42, told the New York Times that one of the victims was an elderly man who was known in the neighborhood for wearing red clothes. Quinones said he saw a young girl get hit by the cruiser.

He added: “It was really crazy how the cops did that.”

Photos from the scene show the disfigured front end of the NYPD car after it was rammed into a pole.

Another witness, Chuck Robinson, told the Daily News: “The police car was speeding. Hitting a lady with a baby on the corner. She was pressed against the wall under the camera.

‘Then it [the police vehicle] hit a lady with a walker and knocked down a man coming out of the building. There was another lady walking on the sidewalk who was also hit,” he added.

Robinson also said: “The lady with the baby was downstairs and they were doing chest compressions. The old man was trying to get up, but he was covered in blood.

The newspaper went on to report that during the aftermath of the crash, a witness could be heard saying, “Yo, what are you doing? Who’s driving? Who’s driving? Don’t move her! Don’t move her!’
