Henry Cavill Is Enthusiastic About ‘Extremely Happy Superman’ Story

Henry Cavill says he never gave up hope that he would one day play Superman. But when he finally put the cloak back on, even he was surprised by how emotional the experience was.

Cavill was working on Netflix’s The Witcher six days a week when a deal was made for him to appear in a scene in Black Adam, he told MTV’s Josh Horowitz at the 92nd Street Y on Wednesday night. He had to get permission from The Witcher team, but the actor said: “It was so top secret we couldn’t tell them what.”

When he got to the studio of Warner Bros. in the UK for the secret shoot, he wore the suit he wore in 2013’s Man of Steel when he first played Superman.

During the conversation, which was taped live for Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Cavill said, “I chose this one specifically because of the nostalgia associated with the suit.” “It was extremely important for me to stand there and enjoy that moment. This is one of the best moments of my career. It’s great to have the opportunity to wear it again.”

The conversation comes after a week where Cavill has been in the news. In the film Black Adam, he again played Superman for the first time in five years. And on Monday, he said in a video posted on social media that he will play Superman in future DC movies. He said what people saw in Black Adam was just a “small taste” of what was to come.

Cavill was first cast to play Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which was the first film in the series. There have been big changes in the DC universe since then. James Gunn, who made Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad, and Peter Safran, a producer, are now in charge of DC Studios, where Henry Cavill’s next Superman movies will be made.

Cavill said he was “very excited” about Gunn’s hiring and joked about rumors that he would be joining Marvel’s Loki, saying that if Gunn can switch between Marvel and DC, maybe he can too. The Hollywood Reporter has heard from sources that Warner Bros. looking for Man of Steel sequel ideas.

Horowitz asked Cavill if he had any news about directors or writers, but Cavill said nothing: “I can’t share anything right now … but in time I will and everyone will hear all the exciting things to come.”

Snyder sent in a video question from the set of his Netflix film Rebel Moon. He asked Cavill to reminisce about their early flying scenes and ended the video by saying, “I can’t wait to work with you again.”

Cavill responded by thanking the director: “He’s a wonderful person and I’m extremely grateful for everything he’s done for me. … Those are formative memories of mine as far as career goes. Then everything changed. I remember them fondly. … Zack, if you’re watching … thank you, my friend.”

Cavill wondered what would happen next. The actor said: “There’s such a bright future ahead for the character and I’m so excited to tell a story with an extremely joyful Superman.”
