Falcon Nine flies again with winning performance on greyhound track

A drop in distance led to Falcon Nine’s best performance in the months that the hands-on fighter won the 405m Free To All in Mandurah last Friday.

The Adam Smithson-trained brindle red competed primarily on 490s and 520s but Cannington throughout his career, but a return to the “400” saw the dog earn his first win since mid-June.

After a decent jump from box seven, Falcon Nine managed to keep in contact with the fast-paced Who Told Spider early and mid-race, then made his move as he approached the corner.

Despite the large splash as they rounded the corner, Falcon Nine was able to get the better of Who Told Spider to take the three-quarter length win in 22.58.

The win was the ninth of 32 Falcon Nine starts.

Smithson welcomed another of his greyhounds into the winning circle the next night in Cannington, when ranch star Vice Grip won the Spring Gift final (520m).

The Perth Cup winner defeated the Amplified leader to take his first win since he was injured in Sydney in April.
