Elmira Leaf Pickup Dates and Directions

ELMIRA, NY (WETM) – The City of Elmira has announced the start of citywide foliage harvesting and has guidelines for homeowners to ensure their lawns are kept clean.

Citi has announced that lead collection will begin on November 14, 2022 and will end on December 22. The leaves can also be delivered to the City Compost site until November 26.

Elmira’s announcement asked residents to rake leaves as close to the sidewalk as possible, between sidewalks and curbs, or on streets without sidewalks. Regardless of where you live, the city is reminding homeowners not to throw leaves on the street to avoid child safety hazards and sewer blockages.

The city said two or three workers would collect cards at least twice on each street, dividing the city into six sections. Composting sites in Elmira City (840 Linden Pl.) And Chemung County (Blostein Blvd.) will close on November 5th and 26th, respectively.

The ad also stated that bagged leaves would no longer be accepted, and encouraged homeowners to mulch the leaves on their lawns to aid the health of the grass.
