Victor Steeman, a famous Dutch motorcyclist has died. He was 22. Steeman was in Portugal for the World Supersports 300 Championship (WorldSSP300) when he was “involved in a multi-rider incident at Turn 14” during the opening race on Saturday, the International Federation of Motorcycling (FIM) confirmed on Tuesday.
“Medical personnel and vehicles immediately attended the scene and the rider was treated on the track and at the track medical center before being airlifted to Faro Hospital,” the statement said.
“Despite the best efforts of circuit medical personnel, marshals and hospital staff, Steeman unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.” In a statement, Steeman’s family said that since his death he had helped save the lives of several people by he gave them his organs. “Something you’ve always feared as a parent of a motorcycle racer has now happened,” the family’s statement read.
“Our Victor couldn’t win that last race. Despite the unbearable loss and grief, we are extremely proud to share with you that our hero, through his death, was able to save 5 more people by donating his organs. We would like to thank everyone for the way you lived with us these past few days. We will miss our Victor very much.”
Steeman came close to winning the WorldSSP300 championship. He has had four wins, five podiums and three pole positions so far this season. He also recently became the driver with the most pole positions in the WorldSSP300 class. At the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, he wrote his name in the history books.
The World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) also tweeted about the sad news on Tuesday, paying tribute to Steeman and offering condolences to his family.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of WorldSSP300 rider Viktor Stiemann,” the tweet read. “The WorldSBK family would like to send all their love to his family, team and loved ones. A great personality, a fierce competitor and a legacy left forever in our paddock. Victor, rest in peace.”
Stiman died shortly after Chrissy Rouse, a British rider, died October 6 aged 26 from a “significant” head injury, he crashed in the British Superbike Championship earlier this month.
