Verdict of the film

Dhanush and Selvaragavan have made some classic films such as “Pudhupettai”, “Kadhal Kondein” and “Mayakkam Enna”, however, expectations have doubled since Nene Vasthunna’s announcement and many fans and viewers thought that another film would add their success list, unfortunately, the film did not look like that.

The film begins interestingly by establishing the key characters and the plot, the premise of the film engages you for a while, but the drama is unbearable and the slow narrative has lost viewers’ interest in watching the first half, sadly Dhanush does not could save the film, the second half becomes interesting when the protagonist’s backstory begins and his childhood trauma is convincing enough for his strange behavior.

The twists associated with Dejavu in the film engage the audience to some degree and Dhanush has brilliantly played a dual role as a family man, he’s just cool and easy-going and another character he’s played as a psychopath is just next level while shows his courage in that role, Elli Avaram, Induja did his best and Selvaraghvan once again made his mark as an actor and the rest of the cast did well.

Selva Raghavan is one of the most refined and singular directors of Indian cinema, her writing, her interpretation and the development of her character are different from any director, as a director she did her best for Nene Vasthunn but failed to involve the audience with his narration.

Technically, Nene Vasthunna is fine as Om Prakash captured some beautiful images of Ooty, some extreme close-ups of the characters and some blocks grabbed the viewer’s attention and Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs are not up to par even in telugu and Tamil but left his mark in the scoring on the pitch and the rest of the technical team did their best.

Overall, Nene Vasthunna is only for those who enjoy different films.

Plus points:

  • Performance by Dhanush
  • Premise

Negative points:

  • Slow storytelling
  • Lack of emotion

Rating: 3/5
