Cuttack MLA Muhammad Mokim granted bail

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court granted bail to Cuttack MLA and Congress leader Mohammed Mokim on Monday in the ORHDC case.

It is to be noted that on 2 October 2022, Barabati-Cuttack MLA and Congress leader Mohammed Mokeem approached the Orissa High Court against the conviction of Special Vigilance Magistrate, Bhubaneswar.

Moquim was awarded 3 years rigorous imprisonment by a special vigilance court in the Odisha Rural Housing & Development Corporation (ORHDC) corruption case.

Senior advocate Pitambar Acharya will argue the case for Mokim in the Supreme Court.

Court of Special Judge (Vigilance), Bhubaneswar, sentenced MLA to 3 years rigorous imprisonment in ORHDC loan corruption case. The court also sentenced three others, including former IAS officer and managing director of ORHDC, Vinod Kumar, company secretary, ORHDC Swosti Ranjan Mohapatra, and broker Peeyus Mohanty, director, Metro Builders Pvt Ltd to three years in jail.

The four convicts were sentenced to three years’ RI and a fine of Rs 50,000 each. If any of them fail to pay this amount, they will have to lie in jail for another six months.

According to reports, on June 24, 2000, Metro Builders took a loan of Rs. 1.5 crores from ORHDC. The loan was applied for the construction of around 50 flats under the Metro City 2 project at Bhubaneshwar’s Nayapally.

The loan amount was handed over to the individuals in the same year in July-August. However, the subway builders did not return the loan. In that case, it was alleged that the IAS officer had shown extra favor to Metro Builders.
