Cristiano Ronaldo shows a nasty blue eye as Morata scores a late winner for Spain

CRISTIANO RONALDO had a painful bruise over his eye as Portugal lost 1-0 to Spain in the Nations League.

Defeat means Ronaldo and Portugal miss out on a place in the last four of the Nations League, with Spain ahead of them to finish top of Group A2.

Ronaldo played the entire game and missed a chance to score before former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata scored a late winner.

CR7 showed his blue eye days after he was punched in the face by Czech Republic goalkeeper Tomas Vlacic.

The striker was left in a bloody mess after the collision, but later returned to the field with a bandage on his nose.

He then conceded a handball penalty and fans joked that he was trying to protect his nose.

Ronaldo was still not fully recovered for the Spain clash with the bruise around his eye still visible.

But the superstar will likely feel more hurt by Portugal’s exit from the Nations League after winning the competition in 2019.

To make matters worse, Ronaldo’s Spanish girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez was watching from the stands in Braga.

Portugal dominated the match but Spain stayed in the race and in the 88th minute, a long ball into the box from Dani Carvajal was sent by Nico Williams to Morata, who slotted it into the net to silence most of the sold-out stadium.

Spain finished top of Liga A-Group 2 with 11 points from six matches, one point above second-placed Portugal, who needed only a draw to book a place in the semi-finals.

The Spaniards join Croatia, Italy and the Netherlands in next year’s final tournament.
