Christian Bale Jokes He Only Gets Leonardo DiCaprio ‘Tendered’ Roles

Several movies starring Christian Bale almost starred Leonardo DiCaprio. The 48-year-old actor from Amsterdam told GQ that in Hollywood, “every role someone gets is just because [Leonardo] DiCaprio has betrayed him before.”

“It doesn’t matter what anyone tells you. It doesn’t matter how friendly you are with the directors. All of these people that I’ve worked with multiple times, they all offered every single one of these roles to him first,” Bale said.

“I had one of these people tell me. So thank you, Leo, because he literally chooses everything he does. And good for him, he’s phenomenal.” Bale said it doesn’t bother him that Leonardo DiCaprio, 47, is better than him because “it’s not just me”.

“Do you know how grateful I am to get any damn thing? I mean, I can’t do what he does,” he said. “And I wouldn’t want the exposure he has. And it does it magnificently. But I suspect that almost everyone his age in Hollywood owes their career to him, passing on any project.”

The actor, who was in The Dark Knight, also told GQ that he doesn’t think of himself as a leading man.

“I’ve never considered myself a leading man. It’s just boring. You don’t get the good parts,” Bale said. “Even if I’m playing a lead role, I pretend I’m playing as, you know, fourth, fifth character down, because you get more freedom.”

Bale also talked about making Thor: Love and Thunder this year and said that his first time playing in front of a lot of green screens was not his favorite way to work.

“This is the first time I’ve done it. I mean, the definition of it is monotony,” he said. “You have good people. You have other actors who are much more experienced at this than I am. Can you tell one day from the next? No, definitely not. You have no idea what to do. I couldn’t even tell one stage from the next. They kept saying, “You’re on Stage 3.” Well, it’s like, “Who’s that?” ‘The blue. They say, “Yes. But you’re on Stage 7.” — What’s that? ‘The blue. ‘ I thought, ‘Uh, where?’ “
