Brixton shooting: Two killed in shooting on a south London street

Two people were killed in a shooting in south London’s Brixton area.

Police, firearms officers, paramedics and an air ambulance were called to Railton Road at the Efra Parade intersection just before 8pm on Sunday.

Metropolitan police were told that gunshots were heard in a residential area where two people were found injured.

Despite efforts by the emergency services to rescue them, two people were pronounced dead on the spot.

At present, the nature of the deceased’s injuries has not been confirmed and their families have not yet been informed.

Police said they were awaiting official identification of the victims and an autopsy would be performed when appropriate.

On the scene emerged a photo of a car with the hood completely destroyed and the window shattered.

An eyewitness told Sky News that he saw emergency services perform CPR on a man on the ground.

Local resident Sebastian Morrison told the MyLondon news site that locals said they heard 12 shots and that the bullets were “exchanged between a couple on a moped and people in a car.”

Police said no arrests have been made so far and investigations are ongoing.

Many streets in the area are closed and there are crime scenes.
