Bride dies in Dhenkanal, family claims it was murder

Denkanal: The body of a bride was found hanging in which the family of the deceased alleged that it was a dowry death at Garapalasuni village under Parajang police station limits here in Odisha on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Sumitra Parida.

According to reports, 6 months ago Sumitra got legally married to her husband identified as Ranjit Behera in Garapalasuni according to the rites.

According to sources, Sumitra’s in-laws harassed her for demanding Rs 50 thousand and television (TV) as dowry.

Finding no other way out of the harassment, Sumitra informed her mother about the torture by her in-laws.

However, on Saturday, Sumitra’s hanging body was recovered from her in-laws’ house.

After being informed, the police reached the spot, recovered Sumitra’s body and sent it for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Sumitra’s family members alleged that her in-laws, after beating her up, hanged the body to pass it off as a case of suicide. Besides, they have also lodged a police complaint as a case of dowry death.

According to the complaint filed, the police have started an investigation and a scientific team has also started an investigation into the matter to find out the cause of Sumitra’s death.
