Nellie Andreeva for the deadline:

Hailing from Sony Pictures Television, Gilligan’s longtime studio home, the new series marks Gilligan’s follow-up to the back-to-back of the critical and rating hits “Breaking Bad” and the prequel “Better Call Saul”. Gilligan will serve as showrunner and executive producer through his High Bridge Productions.

How Deadline reported exclusively last month, there was much anticipation for Gilligan’s speech, with at least 8-9 networks and platforms lined up to hear him and read his script. There were multiple bidding rounds for the project, which I heard was looking for an order for a series and a budget close to $ 13.5 million – $ 15 million per episode – on the high end for a premium drama with elements of significant genres …

Apple TV +, which showed great enthusiasm for the project and aggressively pursued it, had been seen as a strong contender from the start due to Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht’s longtime relationship with Gilligan. As presidents of Sony Pictures Television, Van Amburg and Erlicht drove and sold both “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul”. At Apple TV +, Gilligan will also reunite with former SPT Studios co-chair Chris Parnell, now a senior executive of TV programming at the streamer.
