It was Mousse Djitte’s party and everyone else showed up the last time the two teams played. After entering the game in the 58th minute, the Senegal international wasted no time and scored the first hat-trick in the club’s history. He scored in the 60th, 76th and 80th minutes for Verde’s 3–0 win. In the first match between the clubs this season on May 14, Real Salt Lake defended their home ground and won 2-1. Alex Ring scored in the match and Danny Pereria was sent off in the 47th minute. Both of RSL’s goals came when Austin had to go down a man.

Sebastian Driusi, Austin’s leading scorer and second in MLS with 22 goals, was named one of five finalists for the MVP MVP Award, named after legendary American star Landon Donovan. Goalkeeper Brad Stover was named a finalist for the MLS Humanitarian of the Year award for his work both on the field and in the community.

If the Verde win, they will host next week’s conference semifinals against either FC Dallas or Minnesota United. The No. 4 seed LA Galaxy beat No. 5 seed Nashville 1-0 to set up a derby match at El Trafico against LAFC in next week’s conference semifinals. In the Eastern Conference, FC Cincinnati beat the New York Red Bulls 2-1 to advance to the semifinals against #1 Philadelphia.
