Eric J. Savitz for Barron’s:

It now expects unit sales for the September quarter of around 48 million, roughly flat compared to the same period a year ago. As other analysts have suggested, demand appears to be leaning towards the high-end of the product line, iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, with less buyer interest in the base model iPhone 14 and its big brother, iPhone 14 Plus.

Vogt’s point of view is that the higher demand for high-end models is largely offset by a weaker interest in lower models. He says September quarter results will benefit from the increase in average selling price due to the popularity of high-end models …

Vogt notes that wait times for the Pro Max are 35 days in the US and China and 32 days in Europe and Japan. A year ago, he points out, the wait times for the iPhone 13 Pro Max were 33 days in the United States, 39 in China, and 32 in Europe and Japan. He notes that the base model is widely available, with only Japan showing a short 4-day wait. Waiting times for 14 Plus, he says, range from 8 to 9 days, down from 14 days in a similar analysis a week ago.

MacDailyNews takes: IPhone waiting times are nothing more than a data point and are practically useless without knowing how many units Apple assemblers have managed to pack or mix iPhone, which only Apple knows and won’t tell.

The Apple iPhone mix will easily be the strongest ever. Don’t be surprised at reports that Apple has “cut orders for iPhone 14,” aka iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. The company will likely increase orders for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max to reflect the strong mix that bodes well. obviously for the average selling price of Apple’s iPhone (ASP). – MacDailyNews, September 14, 2022
