An emotional Carrie Johnson watches the outgoing Prime Minister’s final speech #10

Somewhere to be, Boris? An emotional Carrie Johnson watches the Prime Minister’s final No 10 speech before he ushers her out of Downing Street as she tries to kiss councilors goodbye (narrowly avoiding a lamp post on the way)

An emotional Carrie Johnson hugged and kissed friends, aides and politicians who lined Downing Street to hear Boris’ defiant farewell to the nation – but appeared “abducted” by her husband as he rushed to see the Queen at Balmoral.

Mrs Johnson held her husband’s hand as he exited the world-famous black door for the last time as prime minister, before hailing his own legacy in a farewell speech moved an hour early because of a storm warning.

Watched by MPs and allies as he spoke on the steps of Number 10, the outgoing prime minister put on a brave face as he left, saying “that’s it folks”.

And his wife was visibly sad to be leaving, pausing to hug dozens of people who applauded the couple as they walked to their armored Range Rover carrying their two children Wilf and Romy.

Mr Johnson also shook hands with some of the crowd – which included current and former cabinet ministers, as well as Jacob Rees-Mogg with one of his sons. But as he was trying to get to his car, Carrie was still in the middle of saying goodbye.

TV viewers of the historic moment noted that Boris appeared to rush her forward – and almost inadvertently knocked her into some street furniture, grabbing her arm to urge her on.

One said: “The way Boris got Carrie out of Downing Street and through the crowd was so weird and funny. He was seconds away from connecting with that lamp post, so glad he deflected it. Another said Boris had “made himself up” and was “dragging Carrie behind him”, comparing him to a caveman.
