AMERICAN boxer Ernie Shavers, who fought Muhammad Ali, has died aged 78.
The heavyweight from Alabama won 74 of his 89 professional fights between 1969 and 1995.

He lost twice as a contender for the world titles.
This included defeating Ali in 1977 – a unanimous points decision after 15 rounds at Madison Square Garden with the WBA, WBC and The Ring belts.
Tributes from the world of boxing poured in on social networks.
DAZN Boxing tweeted: “One of the biggest punches in boxing history.
“Ernie Shavers has sadly passed away at the age of 78. RIP Champ.”
