AFD: Gas station convenience store catches fire in east Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Firefighters are working to put out a fire at a gas station convenience store in east Austin early Tuesday morning.

The Austin Fire Department said the gas station is at the corner of East Oltorf and Douglas streets. This is east of Interstate 35 before South Pleasant Valley Road.

AFD said its crews arrived at the scene around 4 a.m. The agency said the fire started as trash and eventually spread to the building. A KXAN crew member at the scene said the gas station convenience store was the structure that caught fire.

AFD said there was a partial collapse of the front awning. It is not clear whether the building was used or not, but AFD said in a a tweet the convenience store will be a complete waste.

AFD said there were no reports of injuries. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire as crews work to contain it.
