A father, his 15-year-old son and a friend drowned

The 15-year-old minor, rescued this Saturday in critical condition in g Salou Beach (Tarragona), where his father and another man drowned, died in Joan XXIII Hospital of Tarragona, sources at the center said this Friday.

The boy was rescued yesterday at Els Capellans beach in Salou at around 3.30pm along with his 46-year-old father and another 60-year-old man, who drowned despite resuscitation efforts by lifeguards and toilets.

The beach where the incident took place was also under surveillance at the time of the accident change from yellow to red flag, which prohibits swimming, due to the mistral wind.

The three of the dead were of Romanian nationality and with them the number of deaths on Catalan beaches this summer has reached 20, according to data from the Civil Protection.

Yesterday, the Emergency Medical Service (SEM) system moved six ground units, a command vehicle and a medical helicopter, but medical workers were unable to save the adults’ lives and the minor was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The Mossos d’Esquadra investigated the case and took over the proceedings.
