A family farm fire in Texas was likely caused by cigarettes, officials say

TEMPLE, TX (FOX 44) — The Robinsons and guests pick up the pieces after Saturday’s massive fire.

At around 1 pm on Saturday, a fire broke out in the parking lot of the farm, which caused massive destruction to the cars of the attendees.

Although the cause is still under investigation by the Bell County Fire Department, initial reports indicate that the cause may have been an improperly disposed cigarette.

Owner Helen Robinson says they’re thankful no one was hurt, but they’re still grieving.

“It’s not about us right now,” she told FOX 44 News. “There are certainly millions of emotions going through. However, none of them are for ourselves. You know, it’s primarily for the families that were affected. Specifically with the totally burned cars. You know, those aren’t the experiences we’re here to provide.”

When asked if there’s any concern about legality with insurance companies or individual participants, Robinson says it’s something none of them have experienced and they’re all learning together.

“Through firefighter advice, first of all, it’s a process that needs to be managed through the customer’s car insurance,” she said. “The feedback we have received from them is that claims are being processed. We have already spoken to the regulators. Hmm, things seem to be going smoothly on that side.

The farm is accepting donations of car seats and other necessities for attendees who lost their vehicles in Saturday’s fire.

Robinson concluded by saying they hope to continue hosting the special events they see every year, such as engagements and birth announcements, but they won’t forget what happened.

“We still want to be the Robinson Family Farm that everyone knows and loves. Please bear with us as we work through this.”

The farm will reopen this weekend, and the Robinsons say they are grateful to the community for supporting them during this difficult time.
