18 killed in shooting in Mexico City

Mexico City: Eighteen people, including the town’s mayor, were killed and three others wounded when gunmen opened fire on a town hall in the Mexican city of San Miguel Totolapan.

Gunmen opened fire at a town hall in Guerrero on Wednesday, killing 18 people, the BBC reported.

The left-wing PRD party, to which Mayor Conrado Mendoza Almeda belongs, condemned the attack and demanded justice.

Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda said on Twitter that she deeply regretted the death.

Before Wednesday’s attack, alleged members of Los Tequileros, linked to a drug cartel, released a video on social networking sites announcing their return to the region.

Los Tequileros ravaged Guerrero between 2015 and 2017 and threatened the region’s mayors until their leader Raibel Jacobo de Almonte was killed.

The gang was named after its leader De Almonte, known as El Tequilero – The Tequila Drinker.
