15 dead, 8 rescued from migrant boat in Syrian waters

Syrian authorities have recovered 15 dead bodies and rescued eight
survivors of a migrant boat near the coastal town of Tartus which
survivors said they had left northern Lebanon, the pro-government
al-Watan newspaper reported on Thursday evening, Trend reported, citing Reuters.

The report quoted survivors as saying the boat left from
Minyeh in northern Lebanon days ago and that the people on board detained him
several nationalities. It says that search operations are continuing
the help of local fishermen.

Lebanon has seen a surge in migration led by one of the
the world’s deepest economic crises since 1850. In addition to
The Lebanese, many of those leaving on board migrant boats, are themselves
already refugees from Syria and Palestine.
